My name is Aaron McCall and I'm a graphic designer—or an art director—whatever you want to call it. If you're doing it right, it's mostly the same thing. I've been getting paid for this for almost a decade now and I love what I do. And I'm pretty damn good, too. I've picked up a few awards here and there, but that's never really been what it's about. It's about creating smart, memorable, cool‑as‑shit work for inclined and courageous clients.
I don't really see a difference between art and design. It's all an extension of who I am and who my clients are. It's our stories, our brands, our lives—on paper, on a screen, or wherever. Design is personal. It has to be. And I believe I have an obligation—a charge—to myself and to my clients, to put my disposition, my energy and my empathy into creating something worth creating. Something valuable, impactful and fucking awesome. And I'm in love with the process—the swearing, the failing, the play, the kill. The whole damn thing.
I started out in Lansing, Michigan freelancing and playing art director at Güd Marketing. After a few years, I packed up my stuff and moved to Grand Rapids—Beer City, USA—for a spot with The Image Group. Then some stuff happened blah blah blah and I joined up with a killer team to help launch Next Creative Co. where I balance a full-time AD gig with freelance work and selling design goods.
I just want to be happy. I want opportunity. I want to make an actual difference. And it'd be cool if I could get rich making cool shit. If there's anything else you want to know, please feel free to say hello. We can grab a beer about it if you want.
